Much of my artwork is about transformation, moving from one state of being to another or one
season to another. The Easter piece, Resurrection and the Call, created for my church's sanctuary moves from Easter
to Pentecost. It is a combination of the semi-transparent fabric created by couching bamboo and cotton
yarns onto silk organza and a cascade of origami birds and illustrates the triumph of Easter and the call of Pentecost.
Over 450 origami birds were made by members of the congregation and represent the descending of the
Holy Spirit at Pentecost. As with the other piece I did for this congregation, it was important to have
a participatory element. At the end of Easter season, the white panels will be removed to reveal the
cascade of birds for the season of Pentecost.
